The d’Errico Code Videos, Interviews, Press & Love

June 11th, 2010

I feel really blessed to have so many people around me who support me and push me to make beautiful art every day.  The solo show in Rome was the grand finale of months of hard work, and I shared links and snippets in Facebook ’cause its so easy, I thought I should put it all together in one post.  I hope you can all read Italian, because a lot of the press and interviews were done in Italy!

First, even though it’s actually the last thing to come out, here’s a video of the opening night taken by a really sweet guy at the gallery.  You can see the actual Youtube video here (and he does lots of videos of openings, so check them out!).  You can even hear me speaking italian ^_^

Where do I start?! I have to say, Italians are so poetic in their writing and the way they consider art. I had some really deep and meaningful questions to answer, and I loved it!

If you can or want to read Italian, these are some of the interviews that came out: Espoarte, one of Italy’s contemporary art magazines, interviewed me for their June/July edition.  The Arterotica interview was one of the most in depth ones, so don’t be fooled by the name! There’s one more amazing interview by Giorgia, who is a reporter for another big contemporary art magazine, Insideart.  This is the article that she published both on the site and that came out in a regular magazine/newspaper, “Il Domani”.

I also got some press love from Dragolab (really cool guys to boot, ao’!).  A couple of comics related sites also posted about the show. This one is Mangaforever.net, which is Italy’s biggest – happy me!  There were many other art sites that posted but too many to list, even the Canadian Consulate in Italy put it on their site ^_^.  A must-read is my friend, and author Andrea Grieco’s interview on Alphabetcity (he also wrote the lovely intro to the “Codice d’Errico” show catalog/art book).

Finally, and this is really special, is the pdf of the “Manifesto” that David Diavu Vecchiato wrote and that is included in the “Codice d’Errico” show catalog/art book in the text section. David is curating the year-long Urban Superstar Show in Naples, Italy, and is a comic book artist too!

A big thank you also to all the sites and friends who posted about my show out in the US and Canada! Thanks to Sourharvest, Spankystokes, DailyduJour, ArrestedMotion, Artsprojekt, Juxtapox, Hi Fructose and even Urban Art in the UK!

Last but not least, I will have (only) 25 copies of the catalog/art book of Il Codice d’Errico that I will be selling for $45 (plus applicable shipping). I’m going to sign each book, which is a hardcover book with about 50 pages of images, interviews and other text.  Anyone who wants one of the books should write to cderricostore@gmail.com to get on the pre-order list.  The gallery has printed many more copies and are distributing them throughout Italy and Europe, but these are the only ones I personally have and will sign/sell myself, just for you ’cause I <3 love you all!

Thank You For a Beautiful Vernissage

June 8th, 2010

I’m home again, after some travel hassles with the BA strike and shifting flights! It feels good to be here, but strange at the same time because I was gone for so long and had kinda gotten used to being in Europe.  I’ll be posting pics from the touring soon, but for now I wanted to share images from the opening night of “Il Codice d’Errico”.

Thanks to Christiano, Dario and Luisa from Mondo Bizzarro and congrats Karine on your work!

The paintings will be up in the gallery until June 30th, so if you happen to be in Rome, go check them out!!

That’s it for now…take care!!

Nancy

P.S.    The story of Burn….

Burn was once human.  He also had a family and friends, until a metallic angel of death took everythng from him.  THis mechanical monster, Shoftiel, was one of many living machines made to help humanity that revolted and declared war on their creators.  It tore through Burn’s home and wreaked havoc on his city until the buidings collapsed, crashing down upon them.

Emerging from the rubble, Burn and Shoftiel discover their once separate bodies have become one — neither human nor machine, but a freak union of both.  Internally their minds are caught in a raging battle for control.  Just as mankind must struggle against the sentients for survival, Burn must find the strength to overcome Shoftiel’s genocidal programming to retain whatever’s left of his humanity.

d’Errico Studios in the news!

May 12th, 2010

Hey everyone, I think this is just so cool:  d’Errico Studios gives its take on designer toys for Toy Directory!  AdaPia and I were interviewed before for BrandYou, a social media marketing consultancy, talking about how much fun we have with Facebook, and Twitter, etc.  And now TD Monthly, the toy directory and magazine, interviewed her for their article about Designer Toys. Hopefully through a big network like TD the designer toys can start to get out in a bigger way!

..

You all know by know we founded d’Errico Studios, where we design, make and sell some of our own merchandise (other times, like for the handbags or the card cases, we work with other manufacturers under license agreements).  It has been a whirlwind, but also very exciting.  Makes me so proud! ^_^

;;

The Hot Topic T-Shirts news is also still making its way around!  They are really so great.  I wanted to send a shout out to a few bloggers and friends who are helping to spread the news about the shirst, like Paul at Buy-Tees.net, and Jean at Girly Bubble. I’m probably missing tons more, so thank you to everyone who’s been promoting these ^_^.

Helmetgirls T-Shirts at Hot Topic

May 9th, 2010

My dream of seeing Helmetgirls come to life is starting to come together!  I’m very excited to announce that Hot Topic is selling some t-shirts with Helmetgirls designs at select stores. These t-shirts are made locally in California and are printed with full color screen process, and they are even varnished for an ultra cool effect on the image.  The garment is top quality, 100% cotton.  These are the first 3 models for the shirts, and if they do well, we will release more colorways and more designs.  So go out and buy yours, together with Hot Topic’s fame for discovering and launching new brands, we can create the Helmetgirls world!

Two of the three models are available online.  The Boa Scarf tee and the Tomoko tee.

Helmetgirls have been a part of me, and my art, since I first began painting. They’ve evolved throughout the years, with their gargantuan headgear changing, and animals joined the head-party too. I have big plans for Helmetgirls, including publishing, so for these shirts to be sold at Hot Topic is a big deal and first important step.  We’re launching a Helmetgirls site, as well, which right now remains a mystery, but all will soon be revealed.
